Explore Giza on Two Wheels at Sunset

About this tour

A unique cycling adventure around the Giza Plateau. Ride through local villages, past camel farms and get up-close views of the pyramids from angles most tourists never see.

What you'll see from the saddle

This ride follows village lanes and farm tracks on the edge of the Giza Plateau, where everyday life carries on in the shadow of the pyramids. Expect donkey carts, palm groves, irrigation canals and camel and horse stables, with the outlines of Khufu's and Khafre's pyramids appearing between houses and fields. These angles are very different from the official viewpoints, and they show how closely the modern neighborhoods of Nazlet el-Semman and the surrounding villages live alongside a monument built more than 4,500 years ago. Timing the ride for late afternoon means softer light and, on clear days, a sunset behind the desert.

How the ride runs

The tour lasts about four hours. You meet your English-speaking guide, get fitted with a bicycle, and take a few minutes to adjust the seat and test the brakes before setting off. The route mixes paved village streets with sandy and dusty tracks, with regular stops for photos, water and explanations from your guide about local life and the pyramids. The ride is planned so the last stretch coincides with sunset, which in Cairo falls around 5 pm in winter and closer to 7 pm in summer. Meeting point and transport arrangements are confirmed with you when you book.

Good to know

You should be comfortable riding a bicycle on uneven surfaces and sharing lanes with cars, motorbikes and animals; the pace is relaxed, but this is not a closed cycling track. Wear closed shoes, light clothes that cover the knees, sunglasses and sunscreen. Bring a small bag for your phone and camera. Water is provided. If you would like to enter the ticketed pyramid area as part of your trip, entry tickets are not included, so ask us how best to combine the ride with a plateau visit. Summer afternoons can still be hot, so spring, autumn and winter are the most pleasant seasons.

Frequently Asked Questions

How fit do I need to be?

Average fitness is enough. The terrain is mostly flat, but sand and rough patches make some sections harder work than road cycling, and you will be riding for a few hours with breaks. Children who ride confidently in traffic can usually join; tell us their ages when booking so we can arrange suitable bikes.

What is included in the price?

Bicycle hire, an English-speaking guide and water are included. Prices are $50 total for one rider, $60 total for two, and $30 per person for groups of three or more. Entry tickets to any sites are not included.

Does the ride go inside the pyramids complex?

The route focuses on the villages and farmland around the plateau, which give views of the pyramids from unusual angles. Entry tickets to the archaeological site are not included. If you want to visit the pyramids up close the same day, ask us and we will suggest the simplest way to combine them.

What happens if it is too hot or windy?

Late afternoon is usually the coolest part of the day, which is why the ride is timed for sunset. In very hot weather or during a sandstorm we may suggest changing the date or time. Contact us on WhatsApp before your tour and we will advise based on the forecast.
